A couple of months ago, we started using ChatGPT across the company, and wow—what a game-changer! Compared to "Before-ChatGPT," it's like the difference between a flip phone and a smartphone, a hand-written letter and an email, or a paper spreadsheet and Excel. You get the idea!
Not only has it saved us time (and time = money!), but it's also helped answer many types of questions:
- "I wonder if ___?"
- "Help me find ____."
- "What is ___?"
- "How do I ___?"
- "Why does ___ happen?"
- "Should we consider doing ___?"
Just fill in the blanks, and you'll get a sense of how often we turn to AI now. It’s not perfect, but if you're willing to review the results and provide feedback when necessary, AI can deliver delightful and productive outcomes! Here are a few examples of how we've used it recently:
Software troubleshooting: fixing a glitch in Outlook
Example: My Outlook "Reminders" feature lost its ability to dismiss reminders—snooze was the only option available! After just two days of frustration, I was ready for a fix. Normally, I would have set up a meeting with IT, but this time I fed the problem into ChatGPT.
Result: ChatGPT provided a series of troubleshooting steps, and the first one worked! I bypassed the snooze and dismissed my outdated reminders—no appointment needed.
Social media & password recovery: changing a buried LinkedIn password
Example: An employee left the company, and we needed to change several passwords. LinkedIn was particularly tricky—there were no password-changing options visible. I asked ChatGPT for help and tried the first three options it suggested.
Result: None of the initial solutions worked, so I provided a screenshot to illustrate the issue. ChatGPT apologized and suggested that LinkedIn had changed its interface. It then recommended contacting customer support and provided a direct link. Success! I changed the password within minutes, saving me 20-30 minutes of frustrating searching.
Verifying a website: is this a legitimate service?
Example: After completing two Intuit certifications, I received an email directing me to a site called Credly. I wasn’t familiar with the site, so I asked ChatGPT, "What is Credly, and is it legitimate?"
Result: ChatGPT provided a comprehensive explanation and assured me the service was legitimate. It also gave steps to add prior certifications to my Credly account, making me feel confident using the site without worry.
Coding: generating HTML and JSON code
Example: I wanted Google to recognize FAQs on our blog pages. A friend mentioned that ChatGPT could generate the necessary HTML and JSON code for me, so I decided to experiment by providing specific instructions like bolding and coloring lines.
Result: ChatGPT quickly produced the background code I needed. This turned a tedious task into a quick copy-paste job, saving me time and ensuring the code was optimized for Google.
Strategic coaching: should we change our company name?
Example: We're making internal changes to our services, and I wondered if we should change the company name. I provided background information to ChatGPT and asked for its advice.
Result: ChatGPT delivered logical guidance, explaining why a name change could be a good decision. It also provided the steps to begin the process, though a few links were outdated. After some quick additional research, we found the correct resources and were able to move forward.
Continuous exploration is key
We’ve been tracking the time saved and the ways we use ChatGPT within our company. From administrative tasks to creative work, marketing, security, and tech support, we’re using it daily. We’ve even adopted a new motto: “AI First!”—reminding ourselves to ask AI before diving into any task.
While writing this article, I even paused to ask, “What’s the correct way to display the name ChatGPT?” The answer: “The correct way is ChatGPT, without a space between ‘Chat’ and ‘GPT.’ This is the official branding used by OpenAI.”
We’re launching a series of free online AI at Work training classes if you found these examples helpful. If you’d like to be notified, please email AIandTech@infoplusacct.com with your name and best email address.
P.S. Yes, we’re using the paid version of ChatGPT for access to more powerful features.
