QuickBooks Pricing Changes Announced

QuickBooks pricing changes were announced today. The changes will affect QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Online Payroll, and QuickBooks Contractor Payments. 

The information was shared with the accountant community in an email from Ted Callahan, Director Accountant Segment Leader, and Miranda Henely, Global Head of ProAdvisor Program. In the email, Intuit also announced a town hall on June 1, 2022 at 9 am PT to go over the information in the email as well as answer questions. You can register for the town hall here

In addition, Intuit has asked for your comments on the email notification you received. If you don't see the email in your inbox, check your spam/junk folders. The subject line of the email was "Upcoming changes to your QuickBooks products and pricing." 

The announcement also outlined updates for QuickBooks Online Advanced Reporting, QuickBooks Desktop and ProAdvisor Bundles, and QuickBooks Desktop Payroll product line updates. More information about these updates will be shared in The Woodard Report on May 27, 2022.

Pricing changes are as follows. Please note that there is no pricing change for QuickBooks Online Self-Employed.

Annual Pricing QuickBooks Online Annual Pricing Changes

Here are the dates the price increases will take effect as well as the dates that affected customers will be notified on a rolling basis. 

  • Existing Simple Start and Essential customers who pay directly for their subscription - price change effective July 1, 2022, and customers notified beginning June 1, 2022.
  • Existing Plus and Advanced customers who pay directly for their subscription - price change effective August 1, 2022, and customers notified beginning July 1, 2022.
  • Subscriptions enrolled before July 18, 2022 through the ProAdvisor® Preferred Pricing program or legacy accounts that still have wholesale discounts - price will change on or after September 1, 2022. 

Any new subscriptions, upgrades or downgrades on or after July 18, 2022 will be at the new prices.  

NOTE: If you have a promotional discount for Essentials, Plus, or Advanced, your price will not change until the promotion expires at which time the monthly subscription rate will be modified to reflect the new pricing. 

QuickBooks Online Payroll Pricing Changes

The per-employee/contractor fee will increase from $4 per month to $5 per month in QuickBooks Payroll Core. Here are the dates the price increase will take effect.

  • Existing Simple Start or Essentials customers who pay directly for their subscription - price change effective July 1, 2022.
  • Existing Plus and Advanced customers who pay directly for their subscription - price change effective August 1, 2022. 

For clients who recently migrated to QuickBooks Online Payroll Core (since February 1, 2022) or who are about to migrate, the fee will remain at $4 per employee/contractor per month for six months following set-up. 

However, any new subscriptions, upgrades or downgrades on or after July 18, 2022 will be at the new prices, including those added through QuickBooks Online Accountant.

QuickBooks Contractor Payments

The QuickBooks Contractor Payments monthly fee is changing from $4 per month per contractor enabled for direct deposit to a fee of $15 per month for up to 20 contractors. There is an additional $2 fee per month for each additional contractor beyond 20.

This billing model has been live since May 9, 2022 for subscribers who signed up directly in QuickBooks Online. Existing subscriptions will see the price change on or after July 5, 2022. 

In addition, for accountant-billed subscriptions in QuickBooks Contractor Payments, the fee is changing to $10.50 per month for up to 20 contractors with an additional $1.70 fee for each additional contractor. This pricing change will take effect on or after July 5, 2022 for both new and existing subscriptions added through QuickBooks Online Accountant.
